Only Affiliate members can apply for Professional Designation.
The Professional Designation indicates the right to practice in the particular field of expertise (NDT), governed by the Professional Body. Retention of the status is dependent upon compliance with the stated requirements of the Professional Body.
A Professional Designation shall be conferred to an individual in the form of a title, and registration number.
Details of Designated persons are uploaded to the National Learner Records Database (NLRD). Verification can be obtained through SAQA website.
SPBNDT is a Non-Statutory Professional Body therefore Professional Designation is voluntary and shall be open to all affiliate members who subscribes to the objectives and fundamental principles of the body as set out in Section 6 of the Constitution and who has paid the annual subscription fee as determined by the Board.
The SPBNDT adheres to principles of fairness and due process and endorses the principles of equal opportunity. It shall not discriminate or deny opportunity to anyone on the grounds of national or ethnic origin, gender, age, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, or disability.
A Designated member shall be expected to subscribe to the Constitution and to the Code of Conduct.
Notwithstanding the above subsection, no person, regardless of qualifications or credentials, shall be Designated unless the Board is satisfied that such designation would be in the interest of the Body. The Board shall be entitled to decline any application for designation or decline any renewal of designation, if a majority of its members agree that such designation is not in the best interests of the Body.
The number of SPBNDT Designated Professionals is unrestricted.
Designation, and rights and benefits of designation are not transferable.
All information submitted by an applicant shall be regarded as confidential.
Affiliate members apply online for Designation through the SAINT Professional Body website, www.professional-body-ndt that includes a database for managing the application and registration process and storage of designation records.
Information of Designated persons is maintained on this database and is backup in the cloud.
SAINT Professional Body for NDT is in a position to issue certificates against a Designation to members subject to certain conditions as follows:

Because of the nature and conditions that members work in, members are requested to carry with them an SPBNDT ID card to sites where these members have to go and work. Designation cards are more practical than the paper certificate.
SAQA has recognised two (2) NDT titles and SPBNDT makes provision for registration as a professional corresponding to the following professional titles:

In-service training and mentoring program compliant with company written practice/quality manual and based on company procedures aligned with Unit Standard Workplace requirements. Workplace experience of a minimum of six (6) months.
Independent qualification examination based on AQB (Approved Qualification Body) approved question papers and ICNDT International Question database (Includes ASNT approved questions viz. ASNT Level 3 examination) General, Specific & Practical Papers based on ISO 9712 requirements. Performed by Certification Body approved AQB at approved examination centres. Pass Mark for each paper / practical sample/s ≥ 70%
Applicable for Company authorisation (ISO 9712) / Company certification (SNT-TC-1A or CP 189).
Personnel Certification as per ISO 9712 upon submission and verification of the following:
Evidence of 20 CPD points per year submitted with application for renewal.
In-service training and mentoring program compliant with company written practice/quality manual and based on company procedures aligned with Unit Standard Workplace requirements. Workplace experience of a minimum of one (1) year.

Prospective members apply on line through the SPBNDT website.
Approval of is performed by the Designation Committee and posted on line by the Professional Body Registrar.
Renewal is required annually on-line through the website. Members will be alerted to their annual renewal by an automatically generated e-mail.
Disciplinary Procedure SPB-OP-13 is used to revoke membership.
