Every designated individual must accumulate CPD points in order to qualify for renewal of the Designation.
The CPD system functions in a cycle of one (1) year. This period corresponds to the period of validity of the designation certificate issued to Operators and Technicians.
The annual cycle of each commences on the anniversary of the date of which such person was designated by SPBNDT, which date appears on the individuals designation certificate, and which date in one year also constitutes the expiry date, when such individual is required to apply for renewal of his/her Designation.
A designated individual may not accumulate less than the required number of CPD points per cycle but may accumulate additional points if they so wish, however the additional points cannot be transferred to the next annual cycle.
The total number of CPD points consists of a fixed total of compulsory points as well as an option to choose from a number of optional activities to make up the total of CPD points required for renewal.
CPD is specified separately for operators and technicians as follows;

The SPBNDT must advise the individual, within four (4) weeks after completion of an audit on activities, of the outcome of such audit.
Although employers of designated individuals will most likely keep evidence as proof of CPD activities of their specific registered individuals, every designated individual must retain documentary evidence of his/her CPD activities undertaken during the annual cycle, and be able to present such evidence when requested by SPBNDT to do so. The individual must retain such evidence for at least 5 years.
If during an audit a designated individual is assed as having not met the requirements, the record and verification documentation of such individual must be referred to designation committee for a decision regarding remedial steps and such an individual will automatically be earmarked for re-audit during the next year.
